I just don't understand why some videograpers like dull, murky footage. Especially when filming something as joyous as building and driving a HotRod?

Been using a Zoom H2 for a couple of years now, both as a field recorder, and as an external mic on my cameras, I have been nothing less than pleased with the performance and durability of that unit. I purchased the Zoom back when the H2 and H4 were the only units they had, I have
been thinking of getting a second unit as I am now using more than one camera, and these recorders are far better than the mics in my cameras.

According to Abel Cine's FOV calculator http://www.abelcine.com/fov/ Super 16mm is 11.9mm x 6.7mm and the AF100's Micro 4/3rd sensor is 17.8mm x 10mm.

Blackmagic has stated their sensor is 15.81mm x 8.88mm. So it's quite a bit larger than S16, and slightly smaller than M4/3. Obviously there is a difference in crop factor, but I'd say that M4/3 is a reasonably close comparison for general discussion of the camera.

I wish that the Cinevate guys would get their act together. I don't care about the new products. It would just be great if the old products they had worked. A lot of PL lenses didn't fit on the Brevis PL mount, and those "Simplis"/Uno grips are so flimsy, they bend all over. I would like to support a Canadian manufacturer, but I have to give my money to someone else.

Jay as that matter you are 100% right. I was talking more about how FCX use memory for it self usage.

Now with this on mind and knowing this w ehave set up a IMAC just for Video editing. I know many, many editors that in their editing machines they do not even put internet on it, just to keep the focus of the tasks that the machine have been intended for.

A imac at the studio is 16GB and runs like like a charm, nothing else is been done while editing, nothing else, just the stuff that it is related to the project.

Good find any way about this comment about the Apple support page.

@ Frank - Re the memory management issues, here is one of many threads discussing the problem:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3674752?start=0&tstart=0

Whether it comes from FCPX or Lion, the crux of it is that FCPX tries to use every ounce of RAM physically present, thus leaving none for the system itself to operate, and chokes basic performance as soon as you have a marginally complex project . If you watch your system monitor, the inactive memory portion of the pie chart just grows. My understanding is that it is failing to release memory well beyond the point that the task is completed. There are workarounds. You can purge memory manually, hide events, etc, but in the end they are workarounds. Adobe apps let you allocate specific amounts of ram to specific apps. That's no longer possible with FCPX.

Probably the most perplexing thing though is that in every discussion of these issues, someone like yourself pops in and says "what issue?" and seems to not experience any trouble with similarly configured systems. And I believe you too, so it is still an unresolved issue, as it doesn't appear to be uniformly present and nowhere has it uniformly been resolved.

With all that being said, I've burned a lot of time (and hence money) with FCPX, and the new PPro has now included some of the essential features I love about FCPX (stabilizing for instance), so my interest is piqued.

FCX with the Black-MAgic hardware is allowing External Monitoring. They said that in the next update it will be there.

Also MEMORY MANAGEMENT PROBLEM? I am not sure if I understood well but if Jay Windland is saying that FCX have problem allocating memory I will not agreed on that. A week ago on a shooting we need it to show a ruff cut to the customer right on the spot on a MBP and with only 8 GB of RAM we did a 8 minutes preview, My Imac manage FCX like butter, seriouslly, it all depends on teh codec you are working on. I will make every single file to PRO RESS 422 and my limited IMAG is making things faster them never did with FC7, we are not a big studio but for the jobs we do for the christian community and a couple of christian movies (45 minutes each) we are just fine.

Also on the Copy part of my comment, I have Premier CS5 and FCX, I prefer premier for quick simple 30Seconds commercials, but for longer projects Final Cut is a much better platform, all that metadata at the end if used correctly is a bless to work with, render time and the way it works with Proxy's is a killer.

God bless you all guys.

@Nels - Points taken, and no, FCPX does not currently have a source monitor, though the next "upgrade" is supposed to put it back. It's kinda silly. CS6 looks nice though. Hopefully the big three A's (possibly four now) will drive one another to improve.
