Over at The C47, Jem Schofield has put together a great video tutorial on how to setup and light a green screen for chromakeying. It’s (thus far) a four-part series, but I personally found Part 3 to be particularly helpful in terms of lighting and exposure tips. I’ve embedded Parts 3 & 4 below, you can watch Part 1 and Part 2 at Jem’s blog.

Jem’s has just posted his test of Canon 5D and 7D greenscreen footage, view here.

    Thanks Matt.

I’m going to try and get to the 5D & 7D stuff this coming week if I have enough time.

    hey

my question is not related to green screen shooting, but i thought i’d run this by you. i have a client looking for a particular look for a series of interviews. the look is similar to the errol morris oscar interviews and andrew zuckerman’s book / video project called Wisdom. link: http://www.wisdombook.org/

generally, i use a rifa as a key and various arri fresnel’s for additional lighting. what do you suggest for a lighting setup is to achieve the total background whiteout. my interviews will be not be full body, generally mediums of torso or closeups. your suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks in advance, ph

    Hey Paul,

A white cyc lit evenly would do the trick. Or, use a roll of white seamless.

I would use 4 foot flourescent fixtures on either side and use either your zebras or a light meter to light the background evenly. Keep enough distance between the BG just like in a green screen shoot. 7-10 feet should work and then light your talent separately.

I definitely wouldn’t go the green screen route for this as you’d have to deal with spill.

You might able to get away with two 2 foot flos if it’s just talking heads but a couple of four footers would be better. I would probably rent a Kino Flo Gaffer Kit.

    Hope that helps.
