Remote Wireless Lens Control System with iPhone integration
Published by Matthew Jeppsen December 9th, 2009 in Hardware, NewsWe’ve reviewed the Bartech Remote Follow Focus system in the past, and have interviewed the Viewfactor guys at NAB 2009. So I was interested to run across a new solution soon to hit the market, called the Wireless iRis. This remote zoom/focus system has a unique trick; it runs from your iPhone or iPod Touch. Very interesting!
From the video below, it appears to be realtime and very accurate. The fact that the controls are in software enables all sorts of features, which they appear to be taking full advantage of. However, I’d be curious to see how it works in a production environment, and if the iPod/iPhone angle is more of a convenience or an annoyance. My guess is that most of the AC’s I know would rather have a real wheel in the palm of their hand. Watch below.

can you program different focus points and play them back? That might make up for some of the lack of tactile response.
Matthew, would the holy grail be a remote focus that uses the Canon L series motors? The Birger mount does this, if someone developed this app for the 5d, 7d and 1d, they would sell 15,000 units ordered the first day in biz.
That would be hot, and it appears to be what Red is doing with their Canon and Nikon electronic mounts for the Scarlet & Epic (using the Redmote detachable remote unit).
