We’re just a few hours away from hitting the NAB Expo floor to bring you video coverage of the show, and the buzz is already heating up. Here’s a small sampling of what’s to come…
* AJA has been busy, with what looks like a mini version of the IO HD called the IO Express for Mac and PC users. They’ve also got a slew of new cards and converters, and a $4000 Ki Pro, which is a recorder that takes a number of inputs (SD/HD-SDI, HDMI, etc) and records Quicktime ProRes straight to disk. We’ll get the skinny on this one.
* Silicon Imaging dropped some cool news with the SI-3D, a digital cinema camera system with two-synced cameras that encode directly to a single stereo Cineform RAW Quicktime file that can be edited and played back directly in a Final Cut Pro timeline.
* Zeiss has announced a new set of Compact Primes, which are matched Zeiss ZF glass re-housed in a PL mount design, available far cheaper than a set of Ultra Primes (about half the cost).
* Panasonic has announced newer, faster, cheaper P2 media. 64GB for under $1000, 32GB at just over $600, and 16GB around $400.
* Matrox has announced the MXO2 Mini, a smaller version of their popular MXO2 device. It will be interesting to see what features have been removed to bring the size down. Oh, did I mention that it doubles as an H.264 hardware encoder/accelerator?
* Sony has announced the new SRW-9000 camera, which is essentially the sensor and front end of an F23, melded with a SRW-1 HDCAM-SR deck into one compact package. It’s an F23 for people who think the F23 is too bulky.

Can’t wait to see what is announced! I heard that Apple might announce a pro-tools update offsite somewhere (LAFCPUG supermeet maybe?)
