For NAB 2009, Zylight launched their new full-size professional LED lighting fixtures. Previously they offered small on (and off) camera solutions, now they are transitioning into larger, fully-adjustable fixtures as well. Saw this light at their factory, they’ve been working really hard on it. All the features blow me away. If you spend a little less money you can get a much crappier light from Lite Panels. The Zylight is built like a tank, can’t wait to get mine in the field in July.

Like anything Zylight, it’s well-engineered and looks to be a solid piece of kit. In my opinion, it won’t replace more traditional fixtures in all applications. For instance look at the way each LED point-source flares individually as I circle the light with the camera. Also, they tend to cast individual shadows, so I’d be using it behind a chimera or some type of diffusion. Regardless, another great tool for videographers and filmmakers.

    CRI should be tested.
