At Panasonic’s NAB booth, Jan Crittenden showed off the new Panasonic HPX-300 camera, offering a shoulder-mount configuration, 10-bit, 4:2:2, AVC-Intra, and a host of other professional features. We also spent some time demonstrating the new CMOS rolling shutter flash-frame firmware update. It’s an extensive interview, and very informative. Great story. Lots of detail about a very interesting product.

Very informative interview. Jan takes a few pot shots at DP’s and other Manufacturers price solutions. Personally I can see the difference between 1/2 inch and 1/3 inch chips depth of field and resorting to a 35 MM adaptor is not always a solution. It is a very interesting camera and the software flash solution looks great although it would be nice to see it on moving footage instead of a static.

Great looking camera. A pitty it is not 1/2″ sensor camera.
Also the P2 is a draw back; it would have been wonderfull to finally have a affordable
professional camera with a removable 2.5 inch harddrive. One can decide to put a SSD or a standard one inside. Think about it: 500gb for just 100 bucks to a 1000 if you take a SSD.
Another thing that is not mentioned is the extra price for the batteries and the charger.
A professional will need at least 2 batteries and that is an extra 1500 bucks with charger.
The price of the P2 has finnaly gone down, but is still to high compaired to the harddisk solution. And don’t tell me about the reliability of P2, because in the end you have to backup to the old mighty harddrive.
