Adobe Premiere and After Effects get Native Red Support
Published by Matthew Jeppsen August 1st, 2008 in NewsJim Jannard has posted on the Reduser forums saying “Within a week, RED R3D files will open natively in CS3 Premiere Pro and After Effects.” This means that Adobe CS3 users on both Mac and Windows will now be able to work quickly and efficiently with Red footage at up to 4K resolutions (though not 4.5K, there is a hard resolution limit in PPro).
This is of course fantastic news, particularly for shops that prefer to do their color correction and finishing using After Effects and tools like Colorista, MB Looks, Color Finesse, etc. Apple really needs to get on the ball and enable this same sort of native support for their users…currently FCP cannot handle the R3D format natively, and Color only supports up to 2K.
You can buy Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Production Premium at Amazon with options for upgrade, upsell, and of course the full version.

I’m one of the guys “that prefer to do their color correction and finishing using After Effects and tools like Colorista, MB Looks”
Well, I mean, exactly like this. And as the Production suite is standing on my desk I’m more than happy to hear that. Not it’s timefor the Scarlet to be available.
George
Hey George, you aren’t alone. As Stu Maschwitz has been such a vocal proponent of indies simply doing their finishing in AE, I’ve heard of many folks going that route. And with great AE tutorial resources like what Video CoPilot (http://www.videocopilot.net) offers, even newbs have no excuse. Time for Scarlet indeed…

Thanks for the cross link buddy.
This should be interesting what and how it works with the r3d files.

great news indeed….apple has fallen asleep and needs to get things going asap…
As a Premiere Pro editor I must admit this is good news! Considering that PPro has gone native with some many other high formats i.e. the Sony XDs and Panasonic’s P2 I figured this couldn’t be far behind.
