Overview Video of the Sony EX3 Camera
Published by Matthew Jeppsen July 1st, 2008 in Cameras, Hardware, NewsAfter obtaining one of the first units in the US, Jesse Miller of Midtown Video has posted an overview video that outlines the featureset offered in the new Sony PMW-EX3 camcorder. This should clear up the differences between the EX1 and EX3. And if you haven’t seen it already, we have previously posted an interview from the 2008 NAB Expo floor with Sony’s Bob Ott on the EX3.

Jesse,
What is the magnification with a 40X 2/3 canon or fujinon lens on the EX3 and can you mount Nikon still lenses and what will there magnification be and are all these lenses super sharp on the 1/2 chip.?????
Thanks Ray.
hello! glad you asked.
first, you will need the Fujinon ACM-21, which is an EX to 2/3″ adapter, which has a port for the lens cable to provide power for zoom and iris controls.
now the answer: you will still get the 40x magnification. the only thing that changes is the focal length. so, the canon hj40×14 has a 14mm - 560mm range of focal lengths on a 2/3″ chip.
on a 1/2″ chip, you lose about 10% of the wide but GAIN about 10% in your zoom, giving you roughly a 15.4mm to 616mm focal length range.
many thanks!

TOTALLY AWESOME!!!
Jesse,
Are other 1/2 inch lenses the same magnification factor as the supplied 14X zoom.
Will a Fujinon 20x lens 6.4X128mm be equivalent in 35MM and equal 34.5X691MM???

Jesse - Keep pumpin these things out … informative and TOTALLY awesome, hah. keep it going dude.
thanks Brian and Johnny.
Paul: not 100% sure, but the general rule goes like this: from 1/2″ to 2/3″, add 10%. then, from 2/3″ to 35mm, multiply by roughly 2.5
so, if you have a 2/3″ Fujinon 20×6.4, it’s ROUGH equivalent in 35mm will be 16mm - 50mm
if anyone is looking to pre-order an EX3, or needs anything at all, please think of midtown video as your friendly, awesome supplier.
COMPLETELY AWESOME!!!!
