Cinevate Ballare Pre-Production Dolly ReviewWe recently had the opportunity to check out Cinevate’s Ballare dolly solution. The Ballare is almost entirely constructed of aluminum, and as such is quite rigid. It breaks down into a relatively small size for transport, and weighs around 45 lbs. It can run on schedule 40 PVC pipe, or any other 1″ or 1 1/4″ track. This was a pre-production model, and it is my understanding that since our test Cinevate has integrated a few of our suggestions into the production model, like a more robust pushbar design. For a detailed look at the dolly system, download the attached video or watch online at FreshTV.

    Nice review, guys.

Did you make it over to the Indie Dolly booth at NAB? - Helmut now has a motorized, hydraulic column for his dolly. Looking at the differences between the two systems and similar pricing, I wondered if you had a preference between the two?

I’ve only used the Indie Dolly of course, but I’m impressed with the build on the Ballare.

We did not see the Indie Dolly booth, Mike. Wish I had, so I could offer an opinion…

    Matthew,

I work for a video production company and we are looking to purchase a new dolly, either the Bellare or Losmandy’s Spider Dolly. I liked your review for the Bellare as you are really unbiased, I was hoping you could maybe help me out in deciding which dolly to go for? The spider dolly (www.porta-jib.com) looks a little small but the Bellare’s pushbar is quite thin- do you know if they did change it? Finally, do you know if Flextrak would work with the Bellare even though it’s designed for the Spider? Thank you so much, please let me know what you think,

Cinevate changed the push bar design due in part to this review. Flextrack should work with the Bellare. I would wait for a full production unit of the bellare to be available and then look at it. I like how heavy the Bellare is.
