Yesterday, I had a look at Phil Bloom's EX1/ Letus Ultimate set-up in Tokyo and I'm greatly impressed. The EX3 combined with the Ultimate will be an even better combination as the Ultimate can go directly in front of the censor! I have a feeling, when the EX3 comes, out that the price point will be sub $10,000 and that's still a decent price point for what the camera can do!
ps. Phillip Bloom is a great guy with a great sense of humor! Had a lot of fun!

The EX3 is Sony's checkmate to all the other camera manufacturers' camcorders in that class. Even though the EX3 is basically the same as the EX1 (same half inch chips with native progressive 1920 X 1080 resolution, the same amazing Fujinon lens-albeit now interchangeable, the same high quality LCD - but now with a better viewfinder that's removable), it is a much more capable machine with the addition of the shoulder mount, 60GB HDD add on and re-configuring of the button layout.
Nevertheless, the price tag of $13.000 is a tad steep, being nearly double that of the EX1. The changes on the EX3 in comparison to the the EX1, though nice, simply don't justify the price. It remains to be seen if Sony will keep this price on the release date, and if they do, it will only shy customers away from the EX3 and boost sales of the EX1. At the end of the day, balancing the price of the EX3 against that of the EX1 and other manufacturer's offerings (like the Canon XLH1 in particular) is a tightrope that Sony has to walk. Even though the EX3 is a far better camera than anything out there in it's class ( far better than the Canon XLHI by leaps and bounds) 'the right price' is what will make this camera a hit. Get it wrong and the EX1 still leads in sales

I this this is a great move on Sony's part. You dont just build one camera in a "line" and say your done. This is a natural evolution of the SXS format to a more flexible body. Good job Sony.

The EX3 is a very intriguing camera. Sony is either very brave or very concerned about competition on the consumer side. This kind of camera not only has the potential to cannibalize sales of their larger shoulder-mounted XDCAM Blu-Ray cameras but even go up the line toward the CineAltas. Price is right.
