XDCAM EX1 Hands-On - Menu and Settings Overview

When we asked FreshDV readers what they wanted to know about the XDCAM PMW-EX1, one of the many replies was “why does it carry the Cinealta badge?” That is a very good question. I believe that one way to answer it is to show the extensive menu options and settings available on this camcorder. The video attached to this post is a detailed 27-minute demonstration of the EX1 menus, from top to bottom, showing each toggle available and what options you can select for each setting. Thanks for the thorough walk through of the settings. I’ve just bought this camera and its reassuring to hear Im not the only one experience the clunky green screen flashes when switching modes. A little unsettling but hopefully no biggy.
And I couldn’t agree more with the irritation of having to dig in to the menu when changing to slow motion. My old Canon 1014xls super 8 is better in that respect. It would have been nice if “Shot Transition” settings could also be pre-programmed as fps transition settings. I wonder if that’s something Sony can address with there fabled firmware upgrades? Still an awesome camera and awesome reviews guys. Keep it coming! Cheers.
Excellent. Best coverage of EX1 anywhere.
Or like in the HVX200 if scene files that you create could also contain frame rate settings so that simply switching between two scene files changes the frame rate as well.
