for rolling shutter torture tests, shoot a spinning fan at or at least some moving object with constant speed. pans at unknown speed are not that helpful for comparison. please test rolling shutter at various framerates and framesizes.

We are currently working on some compression test to find out. The post production workflow and comparison is a major piece of this puzzle.

Hi guys,

This is a hot topic....I have a hvx200 and the letus extreme and I have mixed thoughts about switching to ex1...the big pro's of the ex1
is the lense and the lcd...However I would love to know post production wise how does the xdcam mpeg real hold in real world...
color corrections, real time effects, speed rampings done in post, fast pannings, green screen, most of it is already on your list...
and btw I really dig your site...you are doing an amazing job....

best regards

I've updated the post above and added the working list of questions. Feel free to add other comments or ideas for some of the tests in the list. I would appreciate some suggestions on ways to stress the codec (particularly, ways I can do it quickly with a minimum of setup time...we don't have much time with this camera and need to make it quick).

Thanks all,

-MJ

How the does the 4:2:0 color sampling of the EX-1 perform when you try to pull a green screen key in 1080p?

I would like to ask a very comprehensive series of tests on how effective the compression algorythm is and how it affects image quality. Usually, people test only the CMOS quality and forget that it is going to be recorded in a lossy codec.

Also, how small can the DOF be?

Thx

Thank you for offering your reader the chance to ask.

- Can it take 3rd party solid disks?
- Can it handle fast moving and action scene at low light?
- How does it feel in hand?
- I would like to know how does it hold up against HVX200 in term of footage manipulation and color correction in FC2, or other similar programs.

Thanks

I would like to see some low-light footage with the stock lens at whatever settings in the camera might be used for dramatic filmmaking. Bonus points if you can include HVX200 stock lens footage of the same scene for comparison. I'm interested specifically in the visibility and patterns of noise.

On the dynamic range, after calibrating to a 18% gray chip, see not only the dynamic range, but note how many stops under and over it will take--seeing if it's uniformly sensitive in both the high and low end.

How many stops of dynamic range using all the cine modes. I hear that it has about 7 stops, but using a certain cine gamma mode it can reach 10. I would just like to know for sure.

Thanks
