Indie Toolbag - Lighting Dimmer Controls
Published by Matthew Jeppsen November 14th, 2007 in Hardware, News, ShoppingPaul Harrill over at SRF has a nice list of light dimmer solutions, including the Harbor Freight Router Speed Controls we’ve recommended previously. Cheap and effective. He’s also got directions for building your own dimmer boxes, if perchance you happen to be into the DIY thing.
NOTE:
Harbor Freight dimmers can really only support up to around 1,500 Watts per line on a dimmer over that and you risk burning them out they work great just don’t overload them

The quality of the Harbor Freight “dimmers” is questionable. I bought two and one of them is nearly unusable because there is a problem with the construction of the female plug. They are also questionable for shooting sound since both units induce buzzing. I tested on several lighting units. I would not recommend these as a solution if it’s a show that you’ve invested a little money.
