Fantastic DIY Resource with Video Tutorials
Published by Matthew Jeppsen October 7th, 2007 in DIY, Hardware, News, TutorialsVia Film Flap comes this EXCELLENT do it yourself resource, a video blog called Creativity To Spare. The videos dig right into how to build a number of useful and valuable rigs, like this simple DIY Teleprompter, constructed of a laptop and sheet of glass (there’s even links to free prompting software for both Mac and Windows). The instructor Chris Bailey is careful to include detailed parts lists and demonstrates the final product. This is great stuff for those who enjoy building their own gear, or perhaps if you need something for one time only and can’t get a rental.

Hey guys, I’m thinking about shooting a short film in a few months that revolves around a car so I need to look into getting a car stabilizer so I can hook my HVX up to the car. Any suggestions? I don’t want to skimp, though I don’t want to spend $3000 either. I’m looking for great shots and my camera not being dragged down the street.
Filmtools.com has some really good rigs
Filmtools seems to have some sturdy car mounts. Have you tried them?
Well, there’s always the option of putting the car on a trailer and minimizing real driving shtos. Might be a lot safer for both your talent and your camera. And the rigs sure are easier.
You’ve probably already noted our VFGadgets Pro Gripper Quad review, but I wanted to point you to some of the links in the comments on that post. Might find something there…I think the Stickypod is really affordable, but I don’t know jack about it’s build quality or camera weight limitations. http://www.freshdv.com/2007/01/freshdv-test-bench-video-review.html
Hope that helps.
