<description>It shoots to Class 6 SDHC cards chip but only at what JVC terms SP quality i.e. 1440 x 1080i (mines ntsc so 60i) You have to use the hard drive to get FHD 1920x1080i which apparently is the best quality footage you can get for fast moving subjects. I've been practising with it for a few days now its amazing and right now extremely cheap. will buy another if this documentary project goes well!</description>

<description>No, you are correct. It shoots to a hard drive. I guess I was using the term solid-state a bit loosely, and I apologize for that miscommunication. "Tapeless" is a better descriptor.

<description>"it features 3-CCDs capable of capturing over 5 hours of (pixel-shifted) full-raster 1920×1080 HDV goodness to solid-state HDD"

I am not sure if you mean it accepts a solid state compact flash? Because I thought this is a Hard drive based model.

<description>I think "pixel-shifted full raster" here is the equivalent of the HVX200's native chips requiring some "tweaking" to get full res HD. Not that this consumer camera is on par with the HVX, God Forbid. :-)

My personal opinion is that AVCHD is inferior to HDV in all the implementations I've seen to date, and not really an "editing codec" (just like HDV requires some hoop jumping for a good editing workflow). I do believe (from cursory reading) that the AVCHD codec is technically at least CAPABLE of delivering better quality than HDV, but nobody seems to be latching onto that with a solid camera + codec package.

<description>OK...what EXACTLY does "pixel shifted full raster" mean? The new Sony XDCAM EX said this too...so what the heck does it mean? ANAMORPHIC? How can it be "full raster" and "pixel shifted?"

marketting people...gottta hate them.

So, AVCHD? Guess I should look into this format. I so despise MPEG-2 HDV...and I really like tapeless.

Not that I shoot or anything...but I want to...
