Red Camera 8000 ISO Framegrab
Published by Matthew Jeppsen July 13th, 2007 in Cameras, Formats, News
The Red Digital Cinema crew shared a framegrab today from one of the latest iterations of the camera (which is still in development, but shipping soon). The frame is a Macbeth color chart shot at a staggeringly high 8000 ISO. If you are familiar with ASA and ISO levels, you already know that it should look like garbage. It doesn’t. Have a peek. For a comparison of that high-ISO image vs. 320 ASA 16mm and 35mm film, check out this link. It is hard to believe what this camera is capable of doing.

Probably the most impressive image they have produced so far. Wow. My Nikon DSLR falls apart around 1600. I am regretting not putting my name on that list.
I agree. Love my Nikon D70, but I will rarely push the ISO beyond 800, it’s just way too rough. I checked the Reduser forum again, and it seems Jim and Co have now pushed the sensor to 32,000 ASA. It doesn’t look nearly as clean as 16k ISO, but is a nice proof of concept as to what the camera is capable of.
