Attack of the Proprietary HiDef DVD Formats
Published by Matthew Jeppsen June 29th, 2007 in Formats, NewsHave we learned nothing from Betamax? Apparently that is the case. Aptly-named New Medium Enterprises has introduced a 3rd high-definition disc format. I assume this is to further confuse consumers who have yet to choose a clear winner in the ongoing Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD saga. The new HD VMD discs are supposed to be cheaper to manufacture than existing formats, and New Medium claims that players will debut under $200. Expect it all in September of this year.

The pricing is right, the technology is pragmatic and it is attracting content. I wish this format all the luck and hope it puts a dent in the pockets of the corporate slimes of the HD DVD and Blu-ray camps for treating the consumer with complete and despicable contempt.
Support this format and return the power to the consumer…
