Interesting Jog-dial Solution
Published by Matthew Jeppsen May 3rd, 2007 in Hardware, NLE, News, Shopping
Here’s an interesting cross-platform solution from Griffin Tech for a multi-jog or editing jog dial. It’s called the PowerMate USB Multimedia Controller, and is reminiscent of a volume knob (actually one of it’s intended functions).
There are drivers for both Mac and PC that allow you to assign custom functions to the hardware, and it’s under $45 from Amazon. And it has a trendy blue lighting accent, so you KNOW you really want one now. G’wan, it’ll impress your clients…

That knob is very well made and has a great “hand feel.”
Sony Vegas supports using the Griffin device for jog and shuttle. Look up “Griffin” in the help file for tips on how to use it effectively in Vegas. It can be used for Jog, Shuttle, and event trimming.
I have had one for many years now. It’s a fun little device. You can assign it to switch functionality when you change applications as well. So it can work as a jog in FCP and when you switch to the Finder it is global system volume (and so on).
Well-made and also a bit of a conversation piece with the glowing blue light and all.
