The biggest question I have is why is the Deck cost so much. It costs more than the camera. A lot more. Sure tapeless is great for acquisition, but you can't keep buying hard drives. You need to archive it to something and tape is still the best for archiving. But with the cost of the Panasonic Deck you have to rethink your (system) purchases as to whether it is sustainable. With the falling rates of P2 technology and Sony introdusing their tapeless formats I expect to see a bigger push from Panasonic to get their P2 technology deeper into the market. I will agree with you that the last piece of the puzzle would be some solid archive solutions. I was hoping the holographic stuff at NAB would be a little further along than it is. To me if that technology was to be adapted in mass that would be a great solution for delivery. Hi Dean,

I've often had people comment on my DVX 100 that it doesn't look like a professional camera and I show them footage. They are impressed! The HPX 500 has everything you need to get great footage and no one, looking at the camera, will say it doesn't look professional! The one problem, and it's a major one, is that many producers are not yet ready for tapeless footage. It's still a Beta tape world.
