Canon HV20 and Redrock M2 Framegrabs
Published by Matthew Jeppsen April 11th, 2007 in Art, Cameras, Lenses, News, Reviews
Taylor Wigton has a thread over at DV Info where he’s shared a few 24p 1920×1080 still frames taken with the Redrock Micro M2 adapter on a Canon HV20 camcorder. The footage was taken with a 50mm Nikon lens at f/2.8, and is quite sharp. Bear in mind that Taylor is an accomplished shooter with plenty of 35mm adapter experience.
The HV20 is available for just under $1100 from B&H and Amazon.com

Great stuff, especially when combined with the HV20 / Arri D20 comparison that’s floating around, plus the shots of HV20s with 35mm adapters, monitors, matte boxes and follow focus systems that are starting to pop up online. It looks like Red and the HV20 are the “it” cameras right now… I think the Red might last a little longer on top though - but then for the price, it needs to.

HV20 vs. D20? Red vs. HV20? You can’t be serious…

Of course the flat colors of the test chart mean that the MPEG compression and lack of detail in the HV20 don’t really show themselves as much as they would on “real” footage…
Still, Red for “A” cam, HV20 for “B” cam, crash cam, stealth cam, etc…
