The original run of JVC HD100's were plagued by the split screen issue in every single unit.
It reached the point where I heard murmurrings of a class action lawsuit from unsatisfied customers.
Myself - I owned four hd100's in total and was very unhappy with the camera.
Aside from the split screen issue, the lens is very light hungry and in turn not practical for eng or event shooting applications where lighting is unpredictable.
On the bright side, when a film maker, not shooter can control the light the camera does perform nicely.
It can gather amazing images that are more film-like than you would expect.

720p is getting a bum rap as being the medium quality HD format. Ture to an extent,. BUt since JVC shot themselves in the foot by sending defective units - I think most credible and professional consumers shy away from the unit.

When the split screen issue at the very least is rectified once and for all. I will consider
giving the camera a second chance.

The JVC ProHD cameras provide the best image quality when used with the P&S Technik mini35. I've been using a HD100U & P&S mini35 set-up for the last 4 months. Everyone thinks we originate on film...little do they know it's all digital. Haha.
