Actually, the Squiggle isn't as interesting as the actuator created by Artificial muscle. Each has it's interesting characteristics, of course. The Squiggle can be used to implement long-throw actuators simply by using a longer threaded rod. The Artificial Muscle technology, however, has the interesting behavior implied by the name; it returns to its prestressed state after the electric field is removed. It also has very little induced mechanical noise and maybe operatoed open-loop while still yielding accurate positioning.

The post you refer to misses the most interesting aspect of the 6Sight panel described. The EDOF technology based upon the ability to deconvolve an intentionally blurred image gives us the ability to create a lens that remains fast while still offering an extended depth of field. Using these technologies a 10cm-infinite focus lens is possible. (Though some of us will miss the pleasing visual effect of narrow DOF.)
