Peter Wiggins posted at Creative Cow with the results of his Apple Motion (Universal Binary) head-to-head shootout between a Macbook Pro and a G5 dual 2GHz. The bottom line is that the Macbook got better RT Motion performance than the G5.

It’s more like a shootout between a Mobility Radeon X1600 and a Radeon X800XT. The X1600 wins. Why is this so surprising?

CPUs are not as important for Motion rendering. It is misinformation to characterize this test as primarily G5 vs Core Duo.

Very good point, Bruce. However, the test went on to show an improvement over the G5 in FCP rendering as well. Not bad, for a notebook. Mike at HD4NDS has the scoop on all new goodies in the FCP 5.1 update.
