Josh Oakhurst reviews Bubble. And makes some great observations, in his matter-of-fact, take-no-prisoners fashion. Good stuff.
He’s also taken the time to transcribe some director’s commentary from the disc. Here’s a short excerpt:
Steven: We used the Sony CineAlta 950. Which I really liked. They’re easy to use and I thought the images were really terrific, and except for the one Blue light (fantasy sequence) and the one green light outside of Kyle’s trailer, we never used any lights. (Josh’s note: Wow.)
Steven: “What’s great is that you can look through the viewfinder and decide what color temperature you want to go with.
Mark: “Did you have a monitor?
Steven: (nonchalantly) “Na.
Mark: “You didn’t have a monitor?
Steven: “No.
Nice.

Too cool that he didn’t use a monitor. It’s mighty promising that top level movie making is getting simplified as far as how much crap you’ve got to lug around from setup to setup, yet still being able to achieve full on big screen cinematic quality.
I just finished viewing a 130mb wmv HD file of HVX200 footage and it was quite spectacular! Not only is it getting (relatively) simple, but also (relatively) cheap. What a great time to be getting into movie making. I’ll have to check Bubble out ASAP.
